Here are a couple of pictures that Ted’s wife took of us.

Here’s the start of the race. Over 10k people ran the full and half marathons. Ted and I were in the middle third or so of the pack, no where near the front.
the start of the race...no, we weren't in this pack of people...we were a little farther back

A nice action shot of us running, with me making a goofy face and Ted hiding.

And…we finished…and were given these cool medals!
we even got medals for finishing!

There were also some professional photographers along the way and I was able to see some of the photos they took, but the previews are low quality and I’m not going to shell out $30 for a digital photo. So these are really the only photos I have to share. Maybe next time I’ll have more!

my new camera: the holga 120n

| April 26th, 2007

Three years ago, my close friend Mark did a photoshoot for some new shirts that we had printed for Simple Letter. We did the shoot in downtown Dayton near the Riverscape, with Mark shooting almost all of the photos on a couple of digital cameras. Mark also had with him a Holga 120S camera with a roll of black and white film loaded in it. The Holga is basically a cheap, toy camera made in China that leaks light, has a plastic lens, as well as very rudimentary settings.

Well, two weeks ago we finally got the film developed from this photoshoot! Here are three pictures I liked of the 15 Mark took on the Holga:

I had been considering buying a Holga for quite some time and after seeing these photos, I made up my mind. After doing a bit of research, I decided to buy an already modified Holga from www.holgamods.com. The camera arrived Monday and I quickly shot a roll of film and picked up the developed pictures today. The film I used was Kodak TMax 400, which I found isn’t too forgiving a film in lower light. I have 10 rolls of Ilford HP5+ 400 coming in soon, which I’ve heard does well in the Holga. At any rate, a couple of photos came out well, including the one that I took of myself as I drove down my road.

I’m excited to try out different film and see what kind of cool pictures this thing takes. Expect to see more from my Holga adventures soon! If you want more info on these cool cameras, here are some good links I’ve came across:

fun with lasers

| February 10th, 2007

I remember being in high school when the first laser pointers started popping up in classrooms, only they weren’t being used by the teachers. Mischievous students would slyly point them at the teachers bald spot, or their rear, and of course all of the class would laugh. I wanted one at first, but the novelty of a laser pointer soon faded away and they became more of a nuisance than anything. Well, a nuisance when people pointed them at me. I’ll admit, it’s still funny to see a someone walk around a room not knowing a laser dot is on them. I’m reminded of a hilarious Seinfeld episode where George is seemingly stalked by an unknown person who keeps pointing a laser at George, no matter where he seems to go in the city. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll have to find it on DVD or keep watching the reruns.

I say all of this because I found out yesterday that the lasers you can get today are not the same ones available ten years ago! My friend Kent is a middle school science teacher and one of his students brought in a GREEN laser for Kent to demonstrate in class. The laser was so powerful that you could easily see the beam in a darkened room. Kent brought over the laser last night as well as several small mirrors. We used those as well as a glass of water to bounce the laser beam around. Here are some cool pictures that I took of us messing around with the laser:

Check out the beam bending through the water
refracting through water

Bouncing off of a mirror into the water
bouncing off a mirror through the water

Reflecting off a mirror and then off of the surface of the water
off the mirror, off the water, nothing but net

detroit auto show 2007

| January 17th, 2007

This past Saturday I drove up to Detroit with 5 of my buddies to spend the day at the North American International Auto Show. The only other auto show I’ve ever been to is the Cincinnati Auto Show, which I checked out last year, so I knew this one was big but was still overwhelmed with how many cars were there and how long it took to see them all. My camera battery gave out halfway through the day, so I didn’t get a chance to snap pictures of a few of my favorite cars. But here are several I found interesting:

Ford Mustang Giugiaro

the piano burning

| December 18th, 2006

This past weekend I got together with some friends of mine for a bonfire under the stars. And not just any bonfire, mind you. At this one, we were going to burn a piano, and take pictures of someone playing it while it was on fire! I brought along my camera to get some good pictures and thought I’d post some of them here. Enjoy!
