pb&j and a glass of cold milk
| November 26th, 2006Have you ever been drinking a glass of something, maybe it’s milk, or juice, or water, but whatever it is, it’s good. And you’re enjoying this thirst-quenching beverage in a lovely glass, perhaps with some food.
Maybe you’re drinking a cold glass of milk with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And as you eat the sandwich, you take swigs of milk here and there. And suddenly, when you are almost done with the sandwich, there IT is.
You don’t know what IT is, but IT’s there.
IT’s brown and oddly shaped, and you are wondering how the heck IT got there.
And why didn’t you see IT!
Whatever IT is, IT is stuck to the bottom of your glass, and that last gulp of milk that you just drained from the glass that is still in your mouth is no longer appealing because…you are now looking at IT.
Has that ever happened to you?
That’s disgusting. Next time I’m in Ohio, I’ll teach you how to drink out of a glass. We’ll start with a straw and work our way from there.
Sounds good to me! Can it be one of those crazy straws with all of the loops and bends in it? : )
Don’t recall it ever happening to me personally, but there is a family story that’s been told for ages… Once my mom left the Pledge (Lemon-scented spray furniture polish) on the table next to her coffee and one of my brothers who was really little at the time, sprayed it in her coffee. Can you imagine how bad that must have tasted???
You know what else is really cool? When you finish a satisfying bowl of your favorite cereal, and happen to notice a similar brown morsel on the bottom of your spoon. It was just small enough not to feel in your mouth, but big enough to really gross you out now that you can actually see it. Nice to know that foreign object touched my tounge several times without my knowledge.
You gotta take more camping trips Tom… A lil’ dirt ain’t hurt nobody.
Yes. The same thing happened to me last week. Grabbed a cup from the cupboard. Filled it with Ice and Coca Cola. Grabbed a granola bar and headed to work. MMM. That granola bar and cold Coke was a perfect breakfast. Then I got to the bottom of the glass. Drinking and looking down. I noticed it on the next to last swig. Something funky in the bottom of the glass.
I started to think about how that could have happened and how my perfect commuter breakfast had been ruined.
You need to clean the water-spraying jets in your dishwasher. Remove them entirely and run water through them, using a toothpick to dislodge all the nasty food that’s been stuck, probably since the machine’s installation. (You may have to let them soak in soapy water for a time.)
Those particles sometimes find freedom on their own during the wash cycle and like to reestablish their home at the bottom of drinking vessels, usual clear glass, rarely a coffee cup…not sure why they’re so selective. I hope this helps.
Preventative tip: About once a month, run the empty dishwasher with about 1/4 cup of bleach.
