the long overdue update
| August 25th, 2006So…here it is. The update. What has it been…4 weeks? Yes, I am still alive. Yes, I will continue to blog. I just decided to take a break. I’ve had a good 4 weeks though. Want to know what I’ve been up to? Of course you do! If you don’t care…why are you reading this? Ok…on to the good stuff.
I went out to Denver to visit my friend Rachael and had an awesome time out there. We went to a David Gray concert at Red Rocks, which was absolutely amazing! Here are some pictures:

We went with Rachael’s friends Ben and Kristy Cort to the concert, who were a blast to hang out with:

You’ll hear alot about Ben Cort in the days to come. He was recently in a climbing accident where he survived an 800 foot fall down a mountain with only minor injuries. Check out this news article and this interview. God is definitely going to use his story as a powerful witness!
Rachael and I also went hiking in the Rockies, something that I’ve only done once before and, like before, I loved every moment of it:

We even saw an elk out there that Rachael prayed we’d see! It was such a beautiful animal and I was so surprised that God answered her prayer (I have some work to do on my faith…I know):

We went to Boulder for a day too…but I don’t have those online for some reason. We had fun though and I don’t need pics to prove that. Overall, it was a great trip.
I also went back home to good ol’ western New York for my buddy Mark’s wedding. I was able to hang out with some guys I haven’t seen in quite some time, and I really enjoyed that. The wedding was simple and beautiful, and I’m so happy for Mark and Mel. Here are some pics from that:
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Borow:

The couple walking out to the limo:

At the reception there was this out of control DJ who seriously loved his job just a little too much. I just had to post this picture of him:

Of course, I visited my parents while back for the wedding. It was a bit weird going home because my parents had the house 99% ready to sell. Everything was cleaned out, most of the rooms had been repainted, stuff that was left was boxed up. Kinda sad, in a way. It’s the house I lived in from 7th grade through college, until I moved to Dayton. And…as of earlier this week…the house has been sold. My parents are on there way to joining the rest of my siblings in Orlando, FL. Crazy.
I’ll miss this place:

So yeah, I’ve done a bit of traveling this month. With alot more to come next month. I’ll be heading possibly to NYC on a roadtrip with my great friend Chuck and some other close friends of his as a last hurrah before he gets hitched at the end of September. I’m the best man in the wedding, so that means another trip back up to Buffalo, NY. But not before I head out to Granger, IN for an IT roundtable discussion at Granger Community Church. I’m excited about meeting some other IT guys who work in ministry and can’t wait to learn from them, because believe me…I need it!
Ok…done with travel updates. Back to Dayton. Last weekend my friends Nick and Allison hosted a day of games for their friends. We had cornhole, water-balloon toss, hillbilly golf, badminton, frisbee toss, knockout, shotput, and a couple of others. Some were individual events and some were team events. For the team events, people had to form teams of two and come with team uniforms, a team flag, and a team anthem. Let’s just say that my team, the Me Monsters, won alot! I took home 3 golds and a silver! Oh yeah! How cool am I? Ok, I’m not that cool. It was alot of fun though! I think people thought it was a bit odd to see 30 or so twenty-somethings playing knockout in a park, then throwing water-balloons to each other. And they would be right to think so.
Here’s the Me Monsters:
The big highlight for people in my neck of the woods was the opening of The Greene, the city’s newest mall. As if we needed another one! But that’s besides the point. As a good American consumer, I went there today to catch a free movie at their posh DeLux theater. I didn’t really buy anything, so I guess that doesn’t make me a consumer, but I’m sure I’ll go there sometime in the near future to get something. It is quite a neat place the way they have it laid out and there looks like some great shops are there/going in. I loathe malls though, so don’t plan on catching me there often.
So what else? Well…I’ve been challenged alot in my walk with God the last month. From deep conversations with friends to books I’ve been reading to God speaking through his Word to God answering small prayers (which I consider don’t pray often because I think they are insignificant…which is wrong), it’s been a fruitful month. God’s stirring up some things in my heart and I’m excited about where I think life is heading. I’ll save this for another post though.
I think I’ve written enough for now. If you’ve read the whole post, I’m sure you’ll agree. Until next time…
How do I get your job because to me, it doesn’t sound like they even require you to go to it.
For the record, Tom is the hardest working person I know.
Thanks Jon : )
Yeah! Tom’s back in the blogosphere!
yeah ME MONSTER!!!
Nice pics of red rocks, what an amazing place. But so is colorado for that matter. I love that state… glad you had a good time!
Look, I made contact with you again in less than 6 months.
